It seems now , that the inevitable has happened, all those who were so sure nVidia didnt need, we didnt need, the world didnt need DX10.1, theyve changed their tune. People downplayed DX10.1, sang the nVidia tune, and even went as far as to say theyd just skip it altogether.
Problem is, currently, they have no DX10.1 part out, no DX11 part to even glimpse at, we dont have tessellation in our games because they didnt want to support it. Well, DX11 is coming, and while it may be awhile before we see lots of games using tessellation, nows the time for nVidia as the supposed leader in GFX cards, to take the challenge and skip DX10.1, and come out with a DX11 card, ASAP. Move progress ahead, instead of lying to us, saying we dont need these things, and reducing our gaming potential.
Hate to say I told you so, but hey, I told you so heheh

Rant over

PS It would be nice to see nVidia actually to come out with PC gaming firsts first, instead of downplaying it, and then be hypocrits later on

NVIDIA never had a DX10.1 GFX card. They likely never will. I have no clue what DX we'll see in Win 7, maybe DX11? Anyway, if you want DX10.1, HD 4800 cards have it. I bet NVIDIA will have DX11 stuff soon. Hope that helps.

This is more of a test case for nV, they can get their feet wet before tackling their DX11 hardware and add some new features and not risk a major line (they could total bork this part, never launch it, and it would likely do little if anything to their laptop marketshare).

It makes strategic sense, but it does go contrary to alot of their previous statements about their view on the API.

Spruce, if you want a clue of what you'll see in Win7, download the RC and see for yourself, you'll see DX11 ready to go, although you won't see any of the features until the hardware arrives.

:sarcastic: Did you read the link? It says they ARE making one.

Now what would be funny is if nV's DX10.1 part comes after ATi's DX11 part, it's already becoming public afterwards, but it would be somewhat underwhelming to even mentioned DX10.1 on the part if it arrives after DX11 hardware is on the shelf.

I have a feeling that this has alot to do with having extra die space on a 40nm part that was going to be unused otherwise, so perfect time to test drive the features.

Should give us a glimpse at their DX11 strategy and will be interestig to compare to ATi and S3's DX10.1 parts.
