Hey guys-

I have a client that recently opened a second office. 5 computers will be at the new office. I was wondering is there a way to login from new location to the Server 2003 (PDC) at the previous location?

The Server does have a public static IP and can be pinged from the office. I was thinking making a change to HOSTS file? I dont want to just VPN and access files I want to actually login to that domain to get Exchange and Websense to carry over to new location.

Any help, greatly appreciated.

The HOSTS file will do nothing here.

First, if you can ping the server without a VPN that is BAD. May as well truck your data to the curb and put a "FREE" sign on it.

Get the server behind a firewall, setup a good VPN setup between the sites, then you will be able to connect to the sever as if it was local and use it for the PDC on the secondary site.

I do have a VPN, hence the PING, not sure how that got confused. I posted this Q before on a diff forum and all I got was, "Just VPN in and access your files" responses... Which is not what I need here...

Somehow, Im not getting connected. Not sure what I am missing here really.

You did not say you had a VPN connections already, and being able to ping the IP does not mean that you have a VPN connection. I can ping many servers on the net without having a VPN connection to them, just means they have a public IP, which is what you stated.

Need more details as to what is already setup and what is happening when you try to add the other computers to the domain. Do you have the network setup properly to pass though server data? Connections made for authenticating may be blocked. Check event logs on the server and computers?

Asked the exact same Q on another site and has been answered. This thread is done. Appreciate people taking time to answer the question instead of assuming wide open network and parking data on a curb.
Thanks all...
