Sticking strictly to budget: 1Gb HD4870 or GTX260 is yours, plus change.
If you are on a small monitor such as 1280-x1024 or 1440x900 the 512Mb HD4870 is good, and leaves a few more beer vouchers.
Or, for a little more there is the HD4890, and 160 quid for that card plus a good game would have me reaching for the debit card right now, if I had anything in the account;(

+1 for that 4890 by Helloworld...If you squeeze the extra cash, then get that...
Else stick with coozie's suggestion of 4870 1GB/ GTX 260
And get the Core 216 version and not the Core 192 version of the GTX 260...
I am now going to buy a mobo instead, because there is no point in having an amazing GPU when your mobo is unstable XD. I was thinking of the ASUS Maximus Extreme.
Thoughts?
the Maximus Extreme is a pretty expensive motherboard...I wouldn't recommend it except for people with too much money who like to OC. I bought mine thinking it would make a huge difference...only to read all the reviews afterwards (bought the board so new reviews weren't out yet) and I might see 1-3% difference. I really should have saved the $$ and bought a second videocard for crossfire.
