I am trying to decide between these two power supplies. I have a matx case. Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC 430W for $20.99 after rebate. vs. OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ500MXSP 500W (modular) for $39.99 after rebate Obviously, I would love to save the $ and use it towards RAM for my build. But am not sure which one I should go for and if its worth the extra $20 for the modular one. Now, one lingering problem I see is that the Thermaltake only has two sata connectors, yet I have three sata devices. So that might rule itself out would appreciate the input.
That Thermaltake is is probably this one and is pretty much garbage http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/332
Thanks - amazing review - that is the PS that newegg is selling. I'm looking for a great PSU at a great price, i know its hard, but so far i think the OCZ Modstream is the only one right now that fits that criteria. The components I have so far are : # GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L matx motherboard #PENTIUM DUAL-CORE E5200 2.5G (800MHz) Combo cost me $106 # Apex Micro ATX Tower Cost me $25 # Video Card with HDMI port Cost me $15 Objective is to build a powerhouse PC at a budget price. Any other PSU you all can recommend. Otherwise will just go with the OCZ.
This is what I recommend: OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ600MXSP 600W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply compatible with core i7 - Retail $49.99 after rebate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817341017 recommended by Anandtech.com
Thanks for the info - yeah that is the same line i was thinking, except the one i listed is the 500W for $10 less.
I would recommend something better quality and lower wattage, Seasonic S12II 330/380 or Corsair CX400 would be plenty of power for that system.
