I got an E-Machine with an Asus P4s533-MX motherboard that I am trying to repair. The Stand By light on the MB comes on as soon as the Power Supply is turned on. One person said the MB was grounded to the case so I took the MB out of the case and set it on a foam pad with HD, Mouse,Keyboard,Monitor and PS hooked up. The light still came on and the computer will not start up. This computer was in a shop because of a virus. The shop said it was fixed but from what I was told the computer ran for a short time after coming from the shop. They give the computer to me to try and fix. I put a good HD in to test it. Any ideas ???

are all of the cables connected and none are loose?

do the fans whirl when the power button is pressed, or is there absolutely no response?

there is absolutely no response. I just noticed one thing;one of the tabs that hold the heat sink and fan down on the CPU is broken. I do not know when this happened.
