Currently I am still using the BIOS that came with this mobo when I ordered it sep 23rd. I am going to be putting windows 7 ultimate 64bit on my pc today and was wondering if I should update my bios prior to doing so.

Also, in the CPU level up option, does the latest BIOS finally support the amd phenom II x4 965 BE?

The BIOS that came with it could be any version, need to say which one you have. The BIOS CPU support list shows full Phenom II x4 965 support with version 1003. So if you have that, then everything they plan to support for the CPU should be included equally with other CPUs.

Phenom IIX4 965 (HDZ965FBK4DGI),3.4GHz,140W,rev.C2,SocketAM3,Quad-Core BIOS 0601
Phenom IIX4 965 (HDZ965FBK4DGM),3.4GHz,125W,rev.C3,SocketAM3,Quad-Core BIOS 1003

Asus tends to list more info about what the BIOS revisions do than most, so need to read over the lists. But rev 1003 is the newest and includes notations about Win7 and is required to support the 140W CPU, so you need to update to it. Since release date was 9/17, seems unlikely your motherboard came with it 9/23.

Crosshair III Formula BIOS 1003
1.Fix it may fail to install OS when 4GB memory is used.
2.Fix the system may be unstable when unleashing mode is applied with certain CPU.
3.Fix S3 resuming may fail.
4.Improve the stability in Win7 when AHCI mode is enabled.
5.Support new CPUs.

Remember, always update the BIOS from within the BIOS, using a diskette or thumbdrive. Don't update within Windows.
