I've been eyeing those new Sapphire Vapor-X 4890's that just popped up on Newegg:

I was thinking a pair of these overclocked to 1GHz might be a better option for me, especially considering how much more powerful it'd be running games that don't support CrossFire, such as WoW. Thoughts?

You should be fine with your current setup... the dual-4890 setup is honestly too much for your displays.

Wut? 4870x2 QuadFire is theoretically more powerful than dual 4890's... not less.

K first of all you guys need to read his post more carefully.. Although i do somewhat agree. You are theortically better off just sticking with what you have. 1 4870x2 Card is alot more powerful then a 4890. Now 4870x2 is esseintially 2 4870's combined. And you are right that some games dont go so well with crossfire/sli but most newer games are getting there. Plus if your worried about WoW i got news for you. You are already like killing the game graphics wise with a 4870x2 pair. You wont see that great deal of a preformance if you switched over. Although the 4890 pair looks tempting your gunna be dissapointed when you get rid of your two 4870x2's and find out a month later that all those sweet new games you want run like 40 times better on them then your 4890's. Good luck

The thing about WoW is that while I may have a pair of 4870x2's, realistically it's only running on one of the cores on one of the cards. So basically in that game I'd be going from a stock-clocked 4870 to a 1GHz 4890.

On the other hand, even in games which do take advantage of CrossFire, a Phenom II doesn't do the best job pushing dual 4870x2's, imo... I think it'd be better suited to the pair of 4890's.

Well, you can get a good price i am sure for the two X2's so you probably wouldn't need to spend any extra cash.

Last i checked crossfire on it's own is better than quad fire pound for pound and the two 4890's will be better than one 4870x2.
