Hi,

My ISP recently sent me a new modem which apparently will increase the speed of my internet. After installing it everything seemed to work for a few minutes after which I could not access any more websites. I narrowed the problem to DNS (I can ping various IP addresses but domain name resolution doesn't work). By either renewing the lease with the modem or just rebooting the router the problem seems to be resolved, but returns within 30 min or so. Obviously this isn't a long term solution.

I've tried using 'Get DNS Servers Automatically From ISP' in my router config, as well as manually entering the correct DNS servers. This doesn't solve the problem. I called my ISP and was told that the problem was caused by my router.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

Thanks

You did not mention the model# for the router or modem.

What happens if you plug the computer directly into the modem?

Can the modem be bridged so the router receives the IP addresses?
I normally do this to simplify most setups.

Thanks for the reply lyleb but I solved the problem another way. I flashed my router with dd-wrt and everything started working :D My router is a Netgear WNR834B v2.
