Hi all. Tomorrow i'll be placing an order 4 either a hd 4850 ZAR 1300 (rands) or a hd 4670 for ZAR 740. What i need to know is which card would be the best buy considering this card will be running on a samsung crt monitor of a max resolution of 1280 x 1024. Will the cheaper card be able to play new games in at least medium detail and last some time or is the 4850 the better buy?

Can you give us the rest of your system specs, please?
Without seeing them, I would say; go for the faster card, it has the longest future.
Check out the benchmrks here and see if you agree:

Yeah the 4850 is the faster card by far. However, without knowing what the rest of your system specs are and going from that you're still using a CRT it's kind of hard to give a recommendation.

Intel Quad core Q6600 2.4 Ghz
2x1 gb DDR800 RAM
400W PSU
GA-G31M-S2L Motherboard
Win XP SP 3
320 GB HDD
17" Samsung syncmaster CRT max resolution 1280 x 1024 @ 60 HZ
what else would u guys like to know?

Which power supply? Make, model and Amps on the 12 volt output.
Minimum for a HD4850 is listed as 450Watts, but that is overstated by ATI to counter for the many low quality units in use, a high quality unit will be enough.
Given that I do not know the quality of the unit, I will suggest the HD4670 as best for your system, a blown power supply can wreck an entire system, so you can understand my caution.

The 4850 is the better buy as it is more powerful. At that resolution though you will be able to get by with most games on high to medium detail with a 4670. Also since you're PSU is only 400W it would be safer to go with the 4670 as the 4850 is more likely to cause it to blow :D.

Force 3d. I know on my system a "uber" psu is not required. I have 2 power supplies running. 1 400W connected 2 the board. The other 300 W is connected to my hd 4870 and 2 HDDs. Works fine no prob. Bridged it, both psu's power on when i switch on. A open 400W on his system, same as mine. The other 300W of mine is gigabyte, cant remember. But will the HD 4850 make it on his 400W with a quad core pulling power?
