I have no experience on computer, I want to build a good computer (not spending more than [1000-1200]$). I know actual game on market require a fast processor so I am actually looking for a [2.6-3+]GHz with a good overclocking potential. I read, on forums, that Dual Core have a better overclocking potential because of their low energy consumption.
Whatever... If you have any suggestion or advice, feel free to help me!
P.S. Which motherboard fit with this CPU?

If you're going to spend that much, I would go for the new Intel i7 or a Phenom II (if you want to). Look around on the forums for motherboards you will most likely find your answer there.

If you really want to go with the e8400 (I have that one too) and you want to overclock I recommend the GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard by Gigabyte.

8400 is a fun overclock. you can reach it with quad cores but your power consumption as well as heat will skyrocket.

------------------------------ E8500 oc'd 4.5 @ 1.44 vcore with 92mm Zalman
ATI 4850 oc'd 680/1158 with aftermarket Zalman
Asus P5Q Pro mobo
2 gigs 800 Corsair ram @ 4-4-4-12

Sorry but what do you mean by "you can reach it with quad cores"?

i7s can overclock to 4.0+. that is the expected overclock for e8* series. i have mine currently at 3.8 with no voltage change to conserve power since i have my work computers folding@home for me.
