First thing I would like to ask - where's your PSU and your RAM?
Most choices are OK, but I think there are a few things that could be improved.
I'd get the Western Digital 640 GB HDD - right now they have a sale on the Black version for only $10 more than the drive you have listed.
I love the case - have it myself.
Good CPU choice for gaming - have it myself as well.
The one thing that I think about is that for $1000, you could get pretty close to getting an i7 rig, or Phenom II that would be more cutting edge.
The monitor depends on how much you want to spend - you can get good 22" for a little over $200 (sometimes quite a bit less). 24" may tax a single GPU solution in extreme games.
@OP: go away. If you use a cracked Windows you're a thief. You steal software, and then the programmers who worked on it get laid off because there's no money to pay their salaries.
haha, nice guys... let's all point the finger at the OP about his pirated OS (like nobody posting here has ever stepped outside of the license terms!) while nearly every person I know is enjoying theatrical release movies downloaded from the internet. It's all copyrighted, and it's all created by people with salaries.
Annnyways, I do own my OS, and here's my latest computer build. I'll be ordering tomorrow morning:
Intel Core i7 920
ASUS P6T Deluxe
OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 DDR3
SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL Radeon HD 4870 1GB
Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB (x2)
SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R
CORSAIR CMPSU-550TX 650W
Antec Three Hundred Black Steel
That's $1700 CANADIAN after tax (about $1350 US?) I changed the video because I took a look at the one listed from the OP. Looks mighty nice. (I'll be needing to do some HD video editing at 1080p)
This was my original budget build ($950 US), but I decided to go for Moooore Power instead.
Intel E8500
Gigabyte P45UD3L
OCZ Platinum 8GB DDR2 800 kit
EVGA 512-P3-N954-TR GeForce 9500 GT
Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB (x2)
SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R
CORSAIR CMPSU-550TX 650W
Antec Three Hundred Black Stee

@OP: I'd keep your build, but switch to a Phenom 2 720 for your CPU. It's cheaper and performs better.
Here and here are some nice combo deals.
------------------------------Phenom II X2 unlocked to four cores @ 3.8gHz,1.45V. 4GB DDR3-1600 Gigabyte 785g ATi Radeon HD4870 1GB

I threw in a combo (HD & RAM) which shaved a few more dollars off the total price, and got you another $20 of mail in rebate money....it's in the build I posted...I just edited the post is all.
is this a good all around video card? I needs same things but I do a lot of photo editing and multitasking including ziping and unzipping large files... this the system for me?

I can't really pick a hole in that build. Obviously with a bigger budget a person gets bigger and better toys, but that build is solid and will do you good. To buy a prebuilt PC with that hardware you would be paying a lot more.

Ok if there is one change I would make to that build it would be to this mobo down below. This mobo here lets you upgrade to more RAM in the future if you so choose, not to mention it has more extra's than that mobo I posted.
