Hello all,

Im a college student and currently live in a large 7 bedroom house, a fraternity house of sorts. Anyway, as of right now we have one Linksys WRT54G router covering the whole house. Needless to say, the reception in many of the areas is very weak. I have another router, exact same model, but when connected the computers and wireless components seem to get confused and dont connect and are not reliable. I tried changing the IP on one of the routers but it still seemed to be messing up.

Can anyone please give me step by step instructions on how to set up another wireless router in my house and not having them confuse my XBox/Pc/Ect?

Few different scenarios,

First,
If you have 2 Routers in the house. I'm assuming you have 2 DSL/Cable modems hooked up and in different locations. If you do have it setup like this.
Then your problem is channel overlap/interference.

Or this more likely scenario

If you do not have 2 modems hooked up and you have both routers sitting next to each other trying to use the WRT54G as an expander or access point. I think you might want to take the second router out of the equation. If I remember right, the WRT54G will not run in a Access Point mode. It will only work as a router.

Instead there are 2 options .
Either buy a Range extender (easiest option)

Or

Buy a WAP54G access point and add it to the network. (best option)
It will work perfectly with the WRT54G.
But remember to use a different Channel.

Try to stick with either Channel 1 , 6 or 11.
Put the router on 1 and the Access point on 11.
