The airflow in a HP/Compaq system is probably not enough for the passive cooler on that 8600 GTS to work properly. I agree with the mousemonkey also about ebay purchased items, they can be more trouble then they're worth. Look at a HD4670 or the 9600GSO in your area to see what prices are like. Here's 2 links to newegg (which i know you can't use, but may be helpful)
okdokey gd thing is im happy with scan as they take paypal so i l probalby go for scan. but to refernce which out of the 3 would hav bets performance with my machine
It should be OK, borderline OK, as a 9600GSO is in the 90 -110w range under load iirc, and is one of the few cards that can be run on a cheap/generic PSU.
im a he lol. no he done as much as he could as he is 13 so he is smart. and ull probs kick my ass on comp for cod4 as i havnt got it well i do but my gfx card wont take mehh so ill buy nvidia 9600 then from there on play cod4 as i hav it for xbox
That PSU is the first thing to replace as whilst I feel that it will run OK it is going to be at pretty much max capacity and replacing it is probably going to be cheaper and easier than getting a gig of DDR 400 RAM, cheap RAM = £30 Vs cheap 500w PSU £15 - £25.
would th ebest thing to i to take it in to c world get psu from there but get the gfx card from scan as there cheap. so just a 500w would do and tht wuld be liek havin 400ram to make it better online
