I'm using GA-81848P(-G) P4 Titan Series Motherboard with intel 848P Chipset. Recently I have problem with one of my hardisk which a new WESTERN DIGITAL IDE HARDISK 160 gb. I also had my old hardisk maxtor IDE 30 gb which holds my Windows and another maxtor 80gb. Pc memory is 1.5gb with processor of 3.1 ghz. Power supply 450 watt.
Two old hdisk under Primary Ide Port. While new hdisk with samsung dvd burner under 2nd Ide port. I am active in download torrent using utorrent. Recently i have a problem in playing video files. There is something like sratching sound like playing a bad cd. My pc will response very slow during this. Then once a error on windows delay write erroe appear. I have done chckdisk but it still show the same problem. Do I using a lot of hdisk or is there no power or should i increase ram? Please help

from the video I'm playing.the audio sometimes seem to be disturbed. It like playing a movie using a bad and full with sratch disk. This happen around 40 % of the time. Not only video, when i am adjusting the volume setting at taskbar, the sound will be distort a bit. The simptom all gone whenever i plug off the new hdisk. so think problem with hdisk. Maybe 3 hdisk of 270 gb is too much and causing overload. Is that right? My friend ask me to upgrade ram. but from the manual says 2gb is max. i had now 1.5gb.
Adding RAM shouldn't help. I have some difficulties understanding your original post (and it would be nice if you removed all of the blank lines that you added at the end). How are the disks and DVD configured? Cable select or you set them as primary and secondary?
OK, for primary master ide..my maxtor 30gb as primary master while maxtor 80gb as primary slave. While new hdisk western dig 160gb as secondary master with samsung dvd burner as secondary slave. Is power supply causing of lack of power?
the issue only solved when i disconnect the new hdisk. can someone check whether my mboard can support three hdisk up to 270gb? i am planning to buy external hdisk casing with own power to solve the thing.

It's not the number of hard disks, but it might not be totally compatible with your motherboard or it's defective. Are you using an 80-pin IDE cable? The IDE cable used for the DVD might have been an older 40-pin cable. What happens if you connect it as a secondary disk on the primary IDE channel? Why did you get an IDE disk when your motherboard includes SATA ports?
