Currently, it seems that USB 3.0 is my fastest option but that would force me to upgrade nearly all of my external hard drives to USB 3.0.

Are there any interfaces faster than USB 2.0 but cheaper to upgrade to than USB 3.0?

eSATA or FW800. You would need new enclosures anyhow and possibly an eSATA card or FW 800 card for your desktop if it doesn't already have those interfaces.

you could mount the drives internally temporarly and move the data too, other than that you will need new enclosures.

FireWire 800 looks like a very viable solution since I'm mainly doing these things on a Macbook Pro Thanks!
