Good, i currently use a Phenom II X4 955 in my home and a Xeon X2 for the work....

Q6600 for now. Might upgrade it to a Q9650 in the near future if my new job lands working for the military on computers.......

Other than that no need to upgrade as it does what it needs.

AMD Phenom II 940 was in my media center

I replaced the Phenom unfortunately due to a faulty motherboard from Gigabyte. I switched to EVGA so I could get live, same day customer support instead of waiting days to get an email response.

That is unfortunate but once the RMA is complete the wifey will be the likely candidate for the upgrade or I may build another box that I can put back in place of the media center in my living room once my media center box goes in the basement to run my projector on my 10' fixed screen.

Q6600 - workhorse system as soon as I get everything I want transferred from
XP-2400+ - present workhorse system
E5200 - downloads and tinker system
E6600 - self built work computer

That's a lot of coin to get maybe 10% difference in performance. I like to switch when there's 25-30+% performance increase but that's the enthusiast in you coming out.

To the OP, you should make another thread like this for gpu's. That would be interesting as well...

Well, I voted for almost all of those choices as I currently am using four different CPUs:

1. AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+, bought in January of 2006
2. Intel Core 2 Duo T7250, came in a Dell notebook bought November 2008
3. AMD Athlon XP 3200+, given to me by a buddy sometime last year. It's date code says it was made week 14 of 2004.
4. Intel Pentium III Coppermine FC-PGA 1.0B, picked out of a surplus pile last year. It's a cC0 stepping, which was the first 1 GHz PIII stepping, so it was probably made between March 2000 and late 2000.

Pentium III 550 (OC to 730) random junk pos fun volt mod build

A64 s939 3200 Venice (OC to 2.6) sitting idle with temp no gfx.

I7 920 D0 (OC to 4) main rig

but my family have used or is using turion x2s, PIV northwoods, williams, preshotts, P-M, C2D mobiles........

I have everythinng from a laptop with a P5-120 w/80MB ram and 20GB HD running win 95...to a PII-720BE w/8GB ram, 150GB Velociraptor, 500 GB Hitachi, dual 9800GTX+s, etc.

11 systems in all.

The major use is word processing. Just when I ordered the laptop, it was $50 to go from a Celeron to a Core2Duo. Waiting till 2010 and the release of Windows 7 to build a new desktop
