Well I planning to do a huge upgrade sometime in the summer (June) or the winter (December). So I am going to be spending a good sum of cash I have been saving up for a while on a bunch of parts. Here is what I have so far:

Graphics Cards
3 x Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 OC
3 x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102831

Processor
1 x Intel i7 920 Nehalem 2.66 GHz
1 x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202

RAM Memory
1 x OCZ DDR3 1600 12GB
1 x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227421

Motherboard
1 x Asus Rampage II Extreme
1 x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131352

Now I know this is a post about a case but I put it here because the cases forum is filled with threads about PSUs, and I could use a few comments on this build. Oh and about my build is everything compatible, will the graphics cards fit in the motherboard? Also whats a good CPU cooler as I plan to overclock that CPU. Now I need to know what is the best case for air cooling, that looks good and and is under $300? (I prefer full tower) Oh and while we are here - recommend me a good PSU.

Don't bother talking about:
My choice of graphics cards. (Unless it's a compatibility issue.)
How much RAM I picked. (Unless you can prove there that something bad will happen.)

Considering Cases (If you can comment on my options!)

Antec 1200

first of all if you will go to build it in june then it is ok but if you are building it in december then it is better to look in november for the pc parts because it is about 7 months,in these 7 months new parts will be released, anyway here are my recommendations

for psu you you need to look for something about 1000 watt so the best for you would be CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX 1000W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail for 239$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139007&Tpk=corsair%201000hx

for the case i would get COOLER MASTER COSMOS 1000 RC-1000-KSN1-GP Black/ Silver Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119138

for the cooler if you are going to overclock much then get

Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 120mm SSO CPU Cooler - Retail

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608007

if you are going to overclock a little then get

XIGMATEK Dark Knight-S1283V 120mm Long Life Bearing CPU Cooler - Retail

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029

every thing is compatible but i would get the non clocked version of the 4890 and maybe dump the 3x4890 and get 2xgtx 285 ,also i would get only 6gb because u don't need more than 6gb unless you are running many virtual machines

Uhh.. that doesn't make the sense, if 2 4890s have similar benchmarks to 2 285s, and for the price of 2 285s I could get 3 4890s = much better ratio. As for the 6GB ram, well I am a HEAVY multitasker, and I need the RAM.

I haven't heard good things about the Coolermaster case for cooling, we'll see though. I like the Antec 1200, what do you guys think of it?

Waiting on others opinion.

Yeah I know and I was going to answer it but then you were going to come back with some smart ass remark but okay. I guess I can call heavy multi tasking MSN + Vista + Skype + Game + Browsers + Anti Virus + Limewire. Depends on what I am doing at the time, sometimes I have Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Fireworks all opened at the same time. And I'd rather have 12GB now, and be set for a while - and also not have to worry about running out of RAM.

1st wait for the 4890 1ghz to come out and get the sapphire toxic edition and msi cyclone which are more silent than the stock cooler.

2nd u DON'T need more than 2, 1ghz 4890s

3rd get a HAF 922 and buy a 230mm fan for it when it comes out. The haf922 beats its big bro HAF 932 and with 1 less 230mm fan, so if you add one more then its gonna be crazy.

You do all that on your laptop? I'm actually quite impressed!
With workloads like that it makes sense you've raised your budget and your hardware specs.

No I don't have that laptop anymore, the graphics card burnt out, go figure. I did use photoshop and autocad on it, but it was slow as hell. When the graphics card burnt out I went 2 weeks without a computer (what an achievement, huh?) and got a cheap one I can use for now. (Intel 8200, 4GB RAM, Geforce 7600 GS). Oh and WR2 another reason for getting all this is so I won't have to update this computer for a while. Oh and I plan on doing something crazy with the monitors. We'll see.

@rescawen
If the 1GHz 4890s come out this month, then I pretty much have to wait. If the HAF922 looks anything like the HAF932, I'm not buying it.

At this point it looks like I'm getting the Antec 1200.

i don't know about benchmarks of gtx 285 sli vs 4890 tri-CF but i know that the 4890 CF beats the gtx 280 sli so it seems that yah the 4890 tri-CF will be more sensible to get as for the case the cooler master cosmos 1000 and the antec 1200 are both excellent and for the ram it 12gb is over kill but it is your choice
