Hi.I am having problems running aero. When aero is enabled lines with distorted graphics appear and the pc freezes.I am getting a performance rating above 5.I have an nvidia geforce 8500gt 256mb graphics card,q6600 processor and 2 *2gb kingston pc26400 ram.I am using the latest nvidia drivers. I don't really care so much about aero.I mean it is a nice interface but it's not important. The thing that bugs me is why it won't run.
I would appreciate any feedback.thanks

Try reinstalling your drivers. When my drivers got messed up, Aero and games would not run (do games run on yours?).

The display was a total mess.Full of flickering lines, distorted images.Even in bios when i restarted there are flickering lines.I eventually removed the graphics card and reinstalled it.Everything was ok then.I removed all the nvidia drivers and reinstalled them.
Being the noob that i am , i always selected the optional nvidia driver updates on windows update.I'm pretty sure that this is the reason for all the problems.
At least everything seems to be running smoothly now but it could be the calm before the storm!!

first off, vista takes a hell of a alot of RAM when that is applied, not sure why. So how much RAM have you got?

second uninstall all your Nvida drivers and restart into safe mode and run driver sweeper to get rid of all files, directroys registroy etc, than reinstall the lastest drivers.

I mentioned my ram in the first post.It's 4gigs( 2*2gb pc26400 kingston )
I've run driver sweeper in safe mode and installed the latest drivers.Things are looking ok.
Thanks for the help!

It wasn't ok.Now when aero is enabled or when i try to play a game the pc freezes almost immediately.
Maybe i should open the case and stick a fan next to the graphics card to see if it's a heat issue. The card has no fan though so i can't see what would have changed to make it overheat now. It's like detective work lol and i'm no sherlock!!

what...you card has no fan :o it could be overheating its one of those passive onces ? you need quite a air flow for those.

no need to return your card, as you can get a after market VGA for like £20 maybe more, but its only a 9500GT

and to send it back it will cost ya in delivery :P

I can see why it would overheat but why after 1 year of running ok?
I've tried the latest beta drivers and nothing.I'll try some older drivers just to make sure it's not the card.
No fan,just a heatsink

try taking the card out and giving it a bloody good clean as the heatsink might be dusty inside

I'll do that and possibly throw it down a hillside.
You know global warming could be a possible culprit. :pt1cable:

Lol,i stick the card on a huge fan and sent it to nvidia!!
i've been running 3dmark benchtest a couple of times. It doesn't even load the first test before it freezes.I just opened the side panel now and put a huge fan in front of the graphics card and ran the test again. This time i got a distorted b.s.o.d before the first test loaded. Not just a b.s.od. , a d.b.s.od !!!
I don't care, i find this troubleshooting stuff very educational.
