it will read 3gb of memory,, but make sure its the same speed memory, your laptop takes ddr2 pc2-5300 or the max pc2-6400, if you have 6400 in there and u put in a stick of 5300 it will run at the lower ram speed. Since your not matching pairs the ram wont act as dual channel memory, but its probably hard for you to to find the exact same model ram as the one already in your laptop. it depends what your doing with your laptop as the dual channel will only come in effect if your gaming or doing things with big programs. It will just say 3gb but not in dual channel, you should be ok with the 3gb in there.

Thank you it was helpful,i am not much into gaming or bigger programs just ordinary use of lappy ,so i guess 2 gb total should do.
However i am getting the same model Ram as currently in my lappy and also my lappy takes ddr2 pc2-5300 .
