All,

I read that the Core i7 920 & 940 will be phased out soon. Should I buy the i7 920 now or wait for better models? I ask because you can get the 920 now for $199 at Micro Center and I don't want to pass that up if there isn't going to be a comparable value coming along in the next few years. Check the link below for the Core i7 phase out story. Thx all.

^ rumours went around that they were pulling it when the i7 8xx series came out, since the 8xx would have higher clock speeds.

but then a recent roadmap was leaked showing that the i7 920 and 960 are going to be out until at least the end of Q2 2010.

^ the 920 isn't gonna be phased out for a long time (like three quarters.)

and nothing's going to beat it value for money wise within the next year unless AMD releases a 4GHz P2 quad core.

^ It probably won't, nothing's coming in the next year that will rival it from Intel.

That story doesn't make sense to me. Why would they pull the 920 when it is their most profitable Core i7 model? They didn't do this with any of the Core 2 Duo line to my knowledge.

I meant Core 2 line, including the quads.

Check out the Eggs price for an i7 920 and you will see the value in getting one from Microcenter. At $199 you can't beat it.
Watch their prices for the rest of the components though. They are selling the cpu at a loss for a reason.

Micro Center, but there aren't that many Micro Center's in the US, maybe 20 or so. Check to see if there is one near you on their website.
