I've always wanted to know how multi-core processors worked. Lets say you have a 2Ghz dual-core CPU, Does the CPU run each individual core at 2Ghz or does it run both cores at 1Ghz.

Each core is at the rated speed, a 2.0Ghz dual core has 2 2.0Ghz cores. Also remember you can't add core speeds up, some people claim a 2.0Ghz C2D is really 4.0Ghz of power, but it doesn't work that way.

a quad core 3ghz cpu runs 4 cores at 3ghz.
