I have on old PC
- Celeron 1.7 GHz, 128 kB cache
- 128 MB DDR1 RAM
- Intel D845GVAD2 mother board

Of late it has become slow

My applications are simple
- Internet
- DVD play back
- MS office

Will it help if I upgrade RAM to 512 MB ?
or it is of no use ?

Must I buy a new PC ?

If that is all you do, upgrading the RAM will help extend the life of your system a little longer.

If you're running XP, spending $20 on 512MB of RAM will make a difference for the time being. After that, start saving for a new system.

http://www.intel.com/support/mothe [...] 015834.htm your motherboard will support 2 Gbt of memory at it's max. As the board only supports PC2100 (DDR266) the price for a relatively good boost will actually be cheap.
