I currently have a Creative Labs Audigy Gamer card (PCI). I'm building a new machine and was wondering whether I should just go ahead and use my existing soundcard or purchase a new one. Would it be worth it ? I'm not an audiophile by nature. I currently have 5.1 speakers hooked up and am happy with the sound quality i get in the games and movies that I play. I'm thinking that I probably won't be able to tell much of a difference between the Audigy and a X-Fi card. Any opinions would be a great help.
My current system is rather dated: AMD Athlon XP 2000+
Gigabyte GA-7VXRP Mobo.
1GB DDR333 RAM.
MSI GF4 4600ti 128MB Video Card
Audigy Gamer Sound Card

I'm building a much more up to date system with a budget of $1200.
AMD Phenom II X4 965
ASUS M4A79T Mobo
2x ASUS Radeon HD 4870 1GB XFire
6GB OCZ DDR3 1600 RAM
2x Samsung 1.5TB Hard drives

The newer creative cards don't sound any better than the old ones. I still have an audigy 2 zx and it works awesome, just no EAX in win 7. My mobo sound sounds just as good, too. I don't know creative is still in business.
