Split screen troubles

ok, i have a ati radeon hd 4800 serries graphics card it has an agp vga and dvi connection on it, i have my monitor hooked to the vga, and i wanted to hook my samsung 43 inch tv up to it so i ran a dvi cable from my computer to the dvi connection on the back of my tv, i went to system properties and clicked extend my desktop to it and hit apply. and nothing happened, the properties went back to the defualt settings, any help?

The only thing I can suggest is make sure the TV is set to the DVI output or computer output option, latest drivers, try different resolutions for the television. Also try hooking up the VGA to the tv with a converter. That's all I can think of
