I'm writing on behalf of a single, disabled, senior citizen, whose
chronic illnesses make it difficult for him to sit or stand for very
long, so he must spend a lot of time resting in bed. From his bed he
does volunteer clerical work for his church via the internet, using an
old donated laptop computer; and he uses NoCharge.com to surf the web,
which has become his lifeline to the outside world.

Unfortunately his hand-me-down laptop has begun making noises like a
dying duck and freezes up every few minutes, so it appears that it may
soon be history. And on his small disablity pension he doesn't have
the funds to have the computer repaired, much less replace it.

Is there someone reading this who has a working laptop that is capable
of running Windows 2000 and MS Internet Explorer 6?

If so, he'd love to hear from you. His name is Will and his number
is:

206-367-0926.

Or if his line is busy, as it often is, you can leave him a voice mail
message at:

206-222-4096.

If you'd like his email address, just email me and I'll send it to you
via email.

It would be nice if the laptop had a working modem, CD drive and a
floppy drive, but those aren't absolutely essential, as long as it has
a couple of working PCMCIA slots. He has both a networking card and a
modem card, given to him a few years back by someone who reads this
list, which he installed on his dying laptop, and has the laptop
networked to an antique Pentium desktop computer he got at a yard sale
years ago. So he could load his software to the new laptop from his
desktop computer via the network in the event you have a a laptop
without a working floppy or CD drive.

It doesn't matter if it has a working battery or not, since he will be
using it in bed, connected to AC power.

Years ago, before he became homeless, a reader of this newsgroup gave
him a nice little Toshiba laptop, but it got zapped by a power surge
after a power outage when he was staying with a friend in Issaquah,
Washington.

He now has a surge protector in his new public housing apartment, so
maybe his next laptop will enjoy a longer retirement life.
