I have the standard DirecTV receiver/TiVo recorder I got when I signed up
(Hughes Model SD-DVR40).
I am thinking of upgrading to be able to store more shows (approx. 35 hours
is my limit now - not that I have ever hit that). If I do that I would be
interested in a receiver that was faster at changing channels. Are there
any models that are faster and have more TiVo storage?
Also, I see there are now HD receivers out. Can they work with non-HD
channels, including regular local channels. I do not have a HD set, but I
will eventually and if I can upgrade in steps that will limit my outlay at
any one time. I realize until I have a total HD setup from antenna to TV, I
will see no benefit.
Any suggestions on DirecTV/TiVo receiver recorders are appreciated.

Any series 2 directv should work... The new software is
much quicker. You can also get a cache card.
