I have two older GTX 260's (not 216 core). I was thinking of upgrading to one GTX 295. Would I notice an increase at all in performance? The GTX 260's run great but I would love the GTX 295. IF I did upgrade, I would keep one 260 and run it as a dedicated physx card in my second PCI-e slot.
@ Goalguy02: What resoloution are you using? I cannot see dual GTX260s' running short of breath unless you are playing at 1920x1200 with 8XAA!
Perhaps you would be better off waiting for the next gen of cards and seeing what they can do rather than buying what is quickly becoming 'older' tech.
what are you doing that you might need to upgrade, two GTX260's (even the older ones) , is quite a powerful setup, i don't see that running into problems unless you are using very high fsaa and/or 2560x1600 res
yeah I was about to say the GTX275 is "half" the GTX275 so two should be the same if not a bit more in performaces (and just about the same price)
I m still going to keep to my word, no point as if you overclock your GTX260s it will burn off a GTX275(single handed) so if you overclock them both what you get a GTX295 equivent in performaces....
would someone please tell me how much slower are the normal GTX260s are compared to the 216s?

coozie7,
I mainly play 1920x1080. I really get no performance drops in any games, even with AA and AS maxed. Games that slow down at that resolution are Crysis with AA; STALKER Clear sky with AA and Dx10.
Now you have made me rethink upgrading. Waiting till DX11 or GTX 3XX will probably be better. Any idea when we will see either DX11 or GTX3xx series??

Honestly I really have no reason to upgrade. I love me some FSAA at 1920x1080 though. I don't get any real performance drops in any games I play. Unless I play Crysis @1080p with max FSAA, then I get ~30-40fps
GTX 260's SLI
Phenom II 940 @ 3.6
8gb corsair (was on sale lol)
Vista 64bit.
@ Goalguy02: Rumours abound, as usual, but both should have their DX11 stuff out before years end.
Those games are really, really, REALLY hard on the hardware, so it's no surprise you have some slowdowns with either at that resoloution. Try turning the shadow details down or dropping the AA, both work wonders for the framerate.

I say just wait for DX11. There will only be a small difference moving from two GTX260s in SLI to a 295. It may be noticeable in some games depending on your setup, but you need keen eyes to see it . It just doesn't justify the cost. If you want a substantial difference then you will need to go to 2x 295s in SLI. Otherwise just wait for the DX11 cards.

I would keep your 2 GTX 260's. Out of curiosity what res are you running? I mean, there WOULD be a performance increase but it would most likely be ~5 fps, if that, you're better off trying to OC you're current setup. Although, if you're not running i7 already you could upgrade your mobo so you could add a 3rd 260 that would be fairly cheap and more than enough to hold you over until the DX11 cards come out, which, last I heard, will be around Spring 2010.
I to like to speclate, Nvida claims in the 30% but I m going to put it like this <30% cos I don't belive em till I see it and they haven't built the thing yet.
I think the HD58XX would be the card to wait for, if its anything like the HD48XX, AMD are staying very secret about it through.
and yes, I too heard spring 2010. With win 7, but I like to keep a open mind
