Sony VAIO Z1WA
This is one nice looking notebook. I've read all the reviews but I would
like to enhance my understanding of its strengths/shortcomings by seeking
real world user feedback here. The main drawbacks (and my initial
impressions) that I'm aware of are:
1. Tiny font/too high screen resolution (no problem, I like the 14x10
screen res!)
2. Poor speaker quality (sounded very satisfactory inside a crowded Circuit
City)
3. Outdated 16 mb video card (I'm not a gamer so will it matter?)
4. Poor battery life (less than 2 hours?)
5. Fn key necessary for Page Up/Down (minor annoyance)
6. Small R shift key (medium annoyance)
7. USB slots too close together (they looked OK w/o anything connected side
by side)
CC currently has a $200 MIR on this model. For those of you who have this
notebook, I would appreciate your input. Thanks.

One of the problems I haven't solved yet is function keys ... functionality.
I instlalled WinXP Russian version on drive D and use it 100% time. All the
drivers from Sony site work fine, only the Fn key does not work.
On advice from Ezboard.com forum, I burned a set of Recovery Disks (9 of
them), in order to get the HotKey Utility program, but it turned out to be
useless. The set works ONLY for Windows XP Home.
Other than that, the diminitive right SHIFT button is the biggest
disappointment, this notebook ROCKS! Especially in HotSpots like Starbucks
cafes, hotels with Wi-Fi, like the Embassy Suites in Palm Beach Gardens,
etc.
The screen is so sharp, text is so crisp, I cannot understand why people
complain about it...
