I currently have a 790i and Intel Q6600 and just bought 4GB of 1600MHZ Ram. I'm about to sell my current board and CPU and buy a MSI NF980-G65 AM3 motherboard and a AMD Phenom II X4 965 CPU. My question is will I be able to set my CPU to allow my RAM to run at 1600MHZ?
I didn't think there would be a problem either, but some friends of mine told me my ram wouldn't run at 1600 because my CPU wouldn't allow it.. They said I'd have to overclock it a rediculous amount to get 1600MHZ out of my ram.
You don't need overclock the memory, just, in the BIOS, set the FSB/Memory ratio untill the 1600.
