I have had a continuing problem as follows. I have 3 TVs and 3 boxes. I have
signed up for local channels so I have a 3 transponder system. My system
blacks out many times a day. Sometimes for just a few seconds, sometimes for
10 - 15 minutes. Usually the local channels go out with some of the other
"cable" channels going out but not all. Rarely do the premium channels go
out. Anything from just a quick scrambling of the picture to the dreaded
"searching for satellite."
I have had 2 service calls. The first guy said a tree is in the way and the
system should be relocated. The second guy said there was nothing in the way
and changed the transponders and crimped the cables more securely. I still
have the same problem. Here's an interesting fact. When the signal goes out,
I quickly check the dish pointing and signal strength and all 3 satellites
are showing good (over 80% signal.)
If the signal is good, how come the picture drops out? Something wierd going
on.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated!

I think you mean lnb's, and not transponders. The transponders are on the
satellites. There are 32 transponders in total. Each carry different
channels, some don't carry anything. When you check signal strength and get
an 80 you may not be on the same transponder that lost the signal.
Often this time of year "sun-spots" can reduce, diminish, or interupt the
transponder signals. Here is a basic list of transponder/channel references.
Your best bet would be to test for signal on those channels that are
dropping out by check the applicable transponder.

Since the second guy's suggestions did not fix the problem, I would have to
go with the first one.
Do you have trees in the way? What state are you in? The farther north,
the lower the angle so the more chance of getting something in the way.
If not that, is your dish stable and not moving with the wind? Are you
close to an airport with traffic in the line of sight to the satellites? Do
you watch the signal strength for extended periods of time to see if it is
falling? Do all the boxes show the same symptoms at the same time?
