If it was the 8600 GT and 7600 GT, the performance difference would be minimal (5-10%) with the main difference between the two cards being little things like shader versions and DX 9 vs 10.
However, with the 8600 GT vs a 7600 GS... we're talking about a pretty big performance gap. I'm going to guess 20-35%?
Well, I remember that the 8600GT was a pretty big disappointment because it fell behind the 7900GS it was replacing and it's competitor the 1950GT. Of course it was still faster than the Radeon 2600 most of the time . Anyway the 8600GT would be a little slower than the 7900GS, but that's still alot faster than the 7600GS.
