Hi guys

I'm going with an HP desktop specs:
# Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad processor Q8400 [2.66GHz, 4MB L2, 1333MHz FSB]
# SAVE $30! 8GB DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM [4 DIMMs]
# FREE UPGRADE! 640GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive from 500GB
# Integrated graphics - Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 [VGA]

is it worst $50 bucks to upgrade the processor to a Q9300?

Well not everyone wants to build it, but building it is always fun and more rewarding.

Anyways to actually answer his question, How much is the actual total first off?
Also Q8400 Processor's are about 169.99
Q9400 Processor's are about 189.99

So hell to the no it's not worth an extra $50. That's just another useful marketing plan they use.
