I have read a few articles about this subject, and every one says that it should be very possible. But as far as I can see nobody has done it.. Does anybody know for sure if this will work or not? I'd like to upgrade to a nice AM3 Quad core!

It is backwards compatible assuming your motherboard manufacturer has released an updated BIOS that supports AM3. Yes, people have done it. Btw, you made 4 copies of this thread.

i am running a gigabyte ma790x-ud4p board that is am2+ with a x2 550 be am3 chip.

just make sure ur board can handle the tdp you choose some boards can only push 95w

I've read that AM3 processors were mostly supported on AM2+ with 780 chipsets. For other chipsets I'm not really sure, some even aren't compatible.
