I recently decided to build my own computer and I've had Toms Hardware in mind for helping me do so for a while now.
So I was looking at the May 09 gaming computer
(http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-2-overclock,2310.html)
and I thought it was a good deal but considering that I was planing on spending a little more money(and after reading some comments) I started to look around for a better CPU and I stumbled across the AMD Phenom 9650 2.3GHz Quad Core.
It seemed like a good deal so I was thinking about getting it.
So my question is will the 9650 work on the ASRock G41M-LE?
Also, what would be a better buy between the two, the AMD Phenom 9650 or the AMD Phenom II X2 550?

Thanks.

That mobo has Intel chipset. It won't work with AMD chips.

Plus 9650 is an old Phenom. Stay away from them and instead get a newer Phenom II chip like the x2 550. If you really want to go quad, get a x4 920.

the 550 is a dual core black edition with 3.1 ghz at stock it can also support ddr3
the 9650 is a quad core 2.3 ghz at stock locked multi only ddr2
and this all pales into utter insignificance due to the fact that the g41mle supports an incompatible socket

G41 is an Intel chipset. You cannot run a AMD processor on a Intel chipset.

Secondly, the phenom 1's are absolute garbage. If your just surf the net and email its fine, but if you game, go for the newer faster dual or triple core phenom 2. The phenom 2 720BE is about the same price and much much faster than the 9650.

If you want pretty good onboard graphics go with a 780G or the newer 785G chipset and a New Athlon 2 dual core or a 720BE triple core.

These processors are not garbage and do suite a person whom uses them for a verity of reasons including gaming.Everyone is not THE AVOID GAMER.It is a suitable processor for all the above including photo editing music ,etc.Make sure your ram is at least 6400 or 8500 mhz is better with a good hdd and you will injoy your machine.gAMMING YOU NEED A GOOD GPU There are nvidia or ATI.Make sure you chose the right mother board for your pick and make it upgradeable incase you wish to upgrade your system in the furtur.Yes there are better processers out there but if you are just starting to learn remember the learning curve and the money you have to spend.DDR 3 is out now and I do not see the worth of playing for it yet ,let the rest of the computer market catchup befor you do.DDR 2 is a very good perchase for your first build its fast as you need it to be and now you are on the learning curve and there is lots of imformation to come at you so do your homework and do not get confused and ask questions about whatyou would like to use your new build for it is important.Heres my first build ,built in febuary of 2009.
MOBO ASUS M4N82DELUXE-AMD 9650 CPU -2 GIGS OF BALLSTIX TRACERS 8500MHZ-4GIGS OF KINGSTON 6400-C DRIVE 360 HDD SEAGATE SATA -D DRIVE 500 GIG SEAGATE SATA-EVGA 260SC VIDEO CARD 856 mb ram-COOLiT DOMINO WATER COLLER-CORISAIR TX850 PSU-PUSH PULL FAN SETUP-RAZER LACHESIS MOUSE-RAZER LAYCOSA KEYBOARD- 500 gigs external hdd-2 23.3 inch samsung 1680 by 1050 monitors-mfc 465cn all in one fax printer ETC.You see its endless when it comes to money at what you want to buid to what you realy need to build.TAKE YOUR TIME AND MAKE THE RIGHT CHOISES.
