Hey,

After building my first computer, which was a 2000 dollar gaming PC, my family asked them to build them a computer, seeing as they're still running off of a 512MB Ram and they plan to upgrade to Windows 7 if it turns out to be decent, so in short they need a new computer. The catch is that they need in under 500 dollars, and under 300 for the desktop itself, without the monitor, keyboard/mouse, speakers etc. if possible. They don't do much gaming on it, but my younger siblings will occasionaly want to play assorted games that won't play on their current rig.

I've already got this
GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
Intel Pentium E5300 2.6GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80571E5300 - Retail for my processor & motherboard at 122.98
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.190817
OCZ Value Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory for my RAM at 20.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000170147%20105243128%20105233070&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&Order=PRICE

but other than that I'm stumped as to what I should get that would keep it under 300
I still need a Power Supply, A Case, A GPU, HDD, ODD which combined can't be over 156.03 total I do want a card that has DX 10 & Pixel shader 3 though, so if I can't get something in that budget range, I understand.

Two things:
I know that my siblings are going to need a better GPU than that. They're not running Crysis, but they do want to run games like MOH Airborne or similar games. Also, they have a 120GB HDD now, and it's full so I know that they need one that's bigger than that as well.

What about this GPU
SAPPHIRE 100256L Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit GDDR3

Honestly? You want a system for 300$ that can play 3-D games?
Extend your budget, or just get a cheap ass monitor, keyboard/mouse and use WIndows 7 (for Free).
Your demands are too high for a 300$ build.
If you want a better GPU, you'll have to get a better PSU. Over all, plan on spending an extra 100$. Tell your family to up their budget, i they want a system that actually runs like they want it to.

300 It is possible but with so many cut corners that they will be pissed when it does not run as thy think it should. 50 for CPU, 50 for board, 50 for PSU, 30 for case, 50 for mem, 25 for dvd, 50 for hdd. The 75 for the GPU will ruin the 300 mark.

And an OEM windows for 90.

By the way, might I suggest the amd route? AM3 motherboard so you can upgrade it again in two years without any problems. The intel 775 socket will get you into upgrade problems later. And yes with am3 you will pass the 300 mark.

Thats why I built you a $300 build because thats what you wanted.

Tell you it this way.. you wont get a $300 build, aint happening, raise the budget.

Not even a Pre-built is that cheap. $350-$400 will get you the 320gb and the 4670.

@Merlanni:

Amd will be no different than the intel with this budget, even for upgradability.

in 2 years, there will be new sockets that wont be like am2+ and am3 combined.
