I just acquired a second 8800GT and am looking to build a SLI set up though one of my cards is running much hotter than the other - one is at 50/~70C and the other 63/~90C... what card should I put in what position? I'm a little worried about heat issues in my Coolermaster Centurion Mid Size.

YOu might be able to cool them a little bit if you have a PCI slot cooler.

I've thought about throwing a slot cooler in and putting the "hot" card on bottom right above it, but hear so many mixed reviews of the effectiveness of a slot cooler.

If it were ineffective I worry a bit about what my initial concern of putting the hot running card on the bottom and having it heat up the better of the two (especially with air flow now pushing the heat up)... in all reality it probably doesn't matter as they are going to run hot as hell either way.

I was hoping someone else had this issue and had some advice as what worked for them.

I have two 80mm side fans drawing the heat away from the cards and out of the case which lowers temps by about 20 - 25 degrees.

Yeahp...i run a case without the side panel and have the fan thats normally located at the rear of the pc just sitting beside the case aimed at the card intake....without the fan running my 260gtx will literally sit and choke and even if the cards fan speed is at 70% it will idle in the mid 50's and up to 60c so no gaming....of course with the side fan at a quiet 60% and the 260gtx running its fan between 35-40% the gpu stays well below 50 degrees whilst idling and never goes above 60c...btw the idle temp is high due to aero being such a hog and spiking the gpu...and my 260 never wants to go into low power mode...

Just FYI your card can usually get up to 80C and be ok for gaming.

After 80C it gets dangeresque. However I agree, a slot cooler should do the trick if you want to bring down the temps a bit.

I have researched endlessly because of the redic temps on the one card and from what I found the first batch of the 8800GTs typically run stupidly hot. I just updated the bios but also just replaced it with a 260 so I'll have to wait to finish the SLI build to find out if the bios helped.
