Hi i use my pc primarily for gaming, and i currently have the phenom 9950 @ 3.2ghz. Is it worth upgrading to phenom 955 or 965? If so, which one would be better, do they both overclock the same?

First of all, yes, they overclock similarly.

More importantly, do you *need* the upgrade? What games do you play, what graphics card are you using, what's your monitor resolution, and are you dissatisfied with the frame rates/graphic settings you're playing at now? Or are you running CPU-intensive tasks that you need extra performance for?

Well i'm running newer games at 1920x1200, with a 9800gtx. I'd like to buy a new dx11 card when they come out though. Would phenom II substantially increase my frame rate? Wouldn't at 1920x1200 the gpu bottleneck things anyways?

I'd guess the 9800GTX with 512Mb of RAM is holding you back more than the 9950 @ 3.2GHz.

How much do your FPS drop between 16x12 and 19x12 ?

If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, then go for it. Otherwise, no. Even though your running a Phenom I and the new PII is faster, I say its plenty fast for today's apps if its running at 3.2ghz.

evergreen should release soon, and early reports say the 5870 will be $300 sal speculated ofcorse, but wait for the new gpus and play at lower reses for now
