i just bought a new MSI G31TM-P21 mainboard and ive connected everything on it my IDE HD and cd drive but it tells me to select proper boot device i tried connecting the hd only and it reads it but it keeps going to the start in safe mode screen and reboots after i choosing how to start, it only reads when i have 1 part of the IDE ribbon connected can anyboady help me with this?

Check the bios for harddrive controller settings, set boot device to your boot drive. Also there may be a cable issue relating to master/slave devices.
Your options depending on features of your harddrive and cd could be,
drive-select, or master slave. Pick one method and follow through with it or use the original cable and configure it the same way it was originally.
Sounds like it could be as simple as not selecting the cd as first boot device.

I find this works best. Plug single port end into the motherboard. Jumper the HDD as master and put it on the other end. Jumper the DVD as slave and put it in the middle. If the hdd had an OS on it before and used a different chipset, you'll need to either reinstall, or do a repair install.
