First, I am the ultra newbie on this stuff, so be gentle. Second, I appreciate your input. Here we go: Has anyone actually used one of the newer consumer graphics cards (e.g., GeForce GTX 280 and GTX 285, Radeon 4850 x2, etc.) with newer versions of AutoCAD, and particularly Inventor 2010. I am building my first workstation for CAD, and the surcharge for the workstation graphic cards seems ridiculous as compared to the "gamer" cards of the same core and obvious guts as older generations of the consumer cards.

If it matters, planing to build:
Supermicro 5046A-XB ;
RAM: Crucial 2GB 240-pin DIMM DDR3 PC3-10600 x6;
Intel Core i7 920 ;
Seagate Barracuda ES.2 1TB 7200 RPM x2;
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit OEM
and the PNY Quadro FX1800 768MB, if I can't use GeForce or Radeon.
