this is my motherboard

Asus P8P67 LE Intel P67 Express Socket 1155 Motherboard

i have 2x2GB ram which is running @1333Ghz

i want to upgrade that

would it be oki to put a single channel 4GB ram stick running at 1600Ghz in?

What do you mean adding ram clock 1600 even though you already have a 2 * 2 gb 1333?
if the use of default does not overclock is not an issue, higher clock will follow the low clock according to JEDEC standards.
if you use to overclock it should not. look for the same clock

It would also cause your system to run in single channel mode, for all your RAM, so you would have 8GB running in Single channel mode.

I would rather have 4GB in dual channel than 8GB in single channel.

If you are wanting to remove the 2x2GB kit and just use the faster 4GB stick @ 1600, then that would not be a noticeable performance improvement. 4GB running in dual channel is faster than 4GB running in single channel.
