Add or remove programs gone

Hello,
cannot open add or remove programs just keeps trying to populate list to no avail

start -> run -> type:"appwiz.cpl" press enter.
Add and remove programs should be available now.
But I guess you have a bigger problem besides that you can't open
add and remove programs.
