DVD/RW drives stopped working

Hello,
I have 2 DVD/CD (RW) disc drives on my 6-year-old HP desktop and they have suddenly stopped working. No reading or writing. Tried updating drivers but I'm told drivers are current. Tried uninstall/install but no luck. Is there a fix out there or should I go shopping for a new drive? Thanks. djcashm@hotmail.com
