I recently reformatted Windows XP on my computer. I have the same headphones and hardware as before the reinstall, but my audio is significantly lower than is was previous to the reformat. The audio previous could go to a point where it was TOO loud and could not have the headphones on at full volume. This really sucks, any ideas are helpful! As far as I know there is no sound card in my computer, and it is running Realtek HD Audio Drivers.

Go to your computer mfg site and look for drivers. Could be newer ones, depending on what you used to reinstall (hold old was CD). Also check out Sound Blaster for your model. Something like that could have been installed before you did your reinstall. And, of course, you have already visited the control panel for settings.......
