Please can you help me or point me in the right direction for my help?
I am looking to buy...

Silencer 500 Dell
Mfr. PN: PPCS500D

but can't seem to find it available in the UK? I am led to believe I need this particular power supply as it is an upgrade for my Dell XPS 420 desktop system - it's a perfectly compatible upgrade for my PC.

The nearest part i can find on the UK market is

OCZ PC Power & Cooling Silencer 500W EPS12V ATX PSU (UK)
Mfr. PN: PPCS500-UK

The big question - will the 2nd power supply part be compatible with Dell XPS 420 system?

I will have a look at some dutch websites to see if i can find the Pc Power & Cooling silencer 500 dell then...

right EA it is then!

I was led to believe the wiring spec of something else (I'm now clued on PSU, can you tell?) so you could pretty much be stuck with the PC Power & Cooling (OCZ?) Silencer 500 Dell

great! just an after thought OvrClkr - what kind of video card are you running in your 420? - I am a little hesitant to take the plunge on dual slot options - ideally I'd like to get Radeon HD 4770 but may consider getting HD 4850 (I've seen the latter today on ebuyer for £70 UK) if the buggers will fit

sorry to bother you guys again - i've been browsing all night, no gaming yet

almost done, think I'll order EA650 simply cos the price I've found is great, pretty sure I'll plump for XFX HD 4850 1GB I've found at £80

I imagine the 4850 should just fit in the XPS 420 case OK?I've got plenty of room above the card but will it fit in long ways, worried it might not fit with the large CPU cooler I've got above the quad core processor

do the 410 / 420 differ by much in terms of how much space they have for gfx card?

any chance of taking a photo of your 410 and 420 with the side off? wouldnt mind seeing if you have the same processor heat sink job as me

I am almost there but total upgrade of £140 is heck of a lot of money for me

I do appreciate all your help, cheers!! :wahoo:

just thinking should i take this thread elsewhere cos it has digressed to gfx card thread?

if not, given my max settings of 1280x1024 would i be as well to stick with 4770 higher core clock, price seems to be about the same so it's 4770 vs 4850 (both XFX, the 4850 is cheaper!)

ruddy decisions!

hehe CoD5 is horrible.... well at least IMO.... CoD4 and L4D is the way to go....

anyways here are the pic's of the XPS 420 :

well that should not be an issue, there should be at least 1mm of clearance room between all the cards.....

as far as USB wireless adapter, I would not know.... I have always used WiFi PCI-cards....

i maintain your card in photo is so sexy compared to my 4650 (yuk) which cant cope with BF2 at medium settings. i shall be trying that L4D soon though, looks good - also do want to get COD4 - i'll try joining you for a game if we play at same times

questions...

I couldnt see your PCI LAN card on that photo so i thought you had removed it

you clearly have different spec systems in the 410 and 420 and although you might not be able to compare accurately which do you prefer, the XFX HD 4850 or the BFG GTS 250 OC ?

drooling at the impending purchase of EA650 and new gfx card !

and thanks for those photos again!

I would say flip a coin, I have both and they are the same IMO.......it's basically a matter of taste....

I would rather have you save up some more money and get either a 4870 or a GTX 260.... the performance that you get for the price is amazing.... but if your budget is 125.00$ or less than go ahead with the 4850 or 250.....

oooh XFX 4870 512mb found for £90 (just £10 more than the 4850) but I heard these run rather hot and with the other cards in my case (lan card, X-Fi sound card) I though i might struggle for air flow - I guess as long as there is nothing much sitting above the gfx card it should suck plenty of air through the cooling

i shall be taking some photos of my case later too (i'm writing this on the 420 now)

cheers!

righty the moment of truth is close

expecting delivery of my EA650 & XFX HD 4870 512MB any moment now. shortly i will disconnect to take some photos of my crowded case as it is then if all goes well you'll have some after photos too

I'm right in thinking the EA650 has 2 x PCI E 6 pin cables?

thanks for all your help getting me here!
