Greetings, Tom's hardware community
About a month ago I bought a new system. Operating System: Windows Vista Ultimate (6.0, Build 6001)
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Processor 3.2GHz
GPU:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P AM3 DDR3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard
As you can see, it's running a lot slower than it should be. I've checked my BIOS settings and it says it's running at x16, 3.21GHz. I turned off Cool n' Quiet, and changed Vista power save settings to High Performance.
These are the only two conclusions I could come to after browsing the web. I think the chip is either defective - in which case I think I'm screwed because I can't find the box it came in -OR- I can't remember where I saw it but apparently Gigabyte boards have had problems running the X4 Am3 socket types at full speed, apparently it was a BIOS problem, and if I update my BIOS it *should* fix it.
I wanted to get an opinion from some people out on the net before I risk updating my BIOS or ripping my chip out and try to send it back. Let me know what you think, or if you need more information.
