Hey guys i just bought a sapphire 4870 1gb and i haven't noticed that much improvement from my old 8600gts
for example i ran a far cry 2 test

1440x900 DX10 Very High Settings
and i get an amazing 26.35 fps

then i ran a 640x480 DX9 Low Settings
and i get some pretty NICE results 56.29 fps

i also get about 45 FPS in COD4 Single Player 1920x1080 MAX Settings 4X AA

my current system is
AMD X2 4800+
4GB Ram
Ati 4870 1GB
Foxconn A6VMX Mobo
500GB HD

So what do you guys think?

dont expect too much from the cards - some games are designed sort of ahead of time and never work well for a few generations of hardware like Farcry (1) - only the highest end cards (FX5800/9800 etc) would run it at 1024x768 etc where as the next gen it was too easy to run etc

Apache..... he should be getting something like 70 fps for farcry 2 on that card at that resolution and aa enabled, so there is a bottleneck.
Tomshardware benchmark says that with 1680x1050, 4AA, 8AF, Maximum Quality, he should be getting 100 fps.

Here is another benchmark that show cpu/gpu fps with an 4850 or 9800GT, and as you can see, you have a big bottleneck.

Try overclocking the cpu, it could also be driver issues, as you came from an nvidia card, use driver cleaner.
If you can get a phenom II on that board, maybe the 920, get it, and oc it to 3,4 or 3,2 which with a normal air ventilacion is really easy. That will solve any bottleneck you could have, leaving you some space for another gpu upgrade, and without letting out too much cash.
Good luck

i used driver sweeper and manually uninstalled the nvidia drivers too.

I'm running on 1920x1080 with
AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+ 3GHz
2x2GB 800MHz(working at 775MHz, I don't know why) Corsair RAM in Dual Channel
Coolermaster Silent Pro M600 PSU
MSI HD4850 512MB

What do you say?

i also notices a huge improvement in TF2 , with my old processor i used to drop all the way down to 25 - 35 fps in 33 persons servers , and now i can stay always at 80 - 120 fps so was a nice jump too in TF2.

Thanks for helping me out guys.
