Hello, I am a volunteer IT tech(Barely)for Habitat for Humanity of Kitsap County, WA. We just got new Lenovo laptops with win 7 platinum and apparently this version has the ability to connect to a domain deactivated, the box for it is there but shaded out and from what I can find out, only the pro and ultimate can connect to domains. That leaves me with WORKGROUPS as the only way to connect to a server. Problem is, I haven't the faintest idea as to how to do this with Server 2008R2. Please help! Thanks, Jeff

option1: you can upgrade it online for $70 to Win7 Pro

option2: create a folder on the Server that is shared with EVERYBODY and use the Domain name as a Workgroup name. this circumvents the security for this folder on the domain

Option 2 is the choice do to our budget concerns. The problem is that I dont know how to use the domain as a workgroup. Thank you though.

Do you actually mean Windows 7 Home Premium vice Platinum? If so, Emerald has given you a good solution with option 2.
