Can I replace a 533mhz with a 800mhz? Both are ddr2 sdram 240 pin.

If you mobo support the 800MHz, yes you can replace.

even if it doesn't support it, it will just run at a lower speed

possible but i don't think it is very likely, I've done it in numerous computers and never had an issue

same concept as buying overclocked ram and not overclocking your computer as high as the ram goes
