Icons disappearing

Hello,
I have a big problem with my lap-top computer window xp operating system. It was working perfectly but i just installed the Anti Virus on the the machine. I try to put it on and it came on good but all the icon disappear how can i restore the icon that was there before.

Are you positive you installed a legitimate AV ? What AV was it and where did you download it from ? AV installs do not hide your icons, but infections do.

Sounds like you installed a fake anti-virus. Go here http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/248626-45-simple-free-guide-removing-malware, run though the guide to remove the virus/spyware.

Then you need to select your profile in the C:\Documents and Settings folder and uncheck the Hidden setting on the Desktop and Start Menu. Do the same thing for All Users.
