Hi, im a first time builder and would appreciate your advice on the parts I am using. I will be using this system for internet/office productivity + tv tuner and some music recording, and very light video editing. A quiet system is my priority. Will be running vista 64bit/win 7.
APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: (This week) BUDGET RANGE: (500)

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: (internet, tv tuner, light video editing, music recording)

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: ( keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS)

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg
PARTS PREFERENCES: intel quad core

OVERCLOCKING: No
MONITOR RESOLUTION: (1920x1200 asus 25.5 inch)

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: (I would like a quiet PC - very important)

Case - Antec NSK4480 - getting this open box from a local retailer- 75 (includes 80 plus power supply)

CPU- Q8200 quad core

Mobo-BIOSTAR T41-A7 LGA 775 Intel G41 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

Hard Drive- Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -

memory - Corsair Memory XMS2 4GB DDR2-800 (PC-6400)

video - on board video - but I would like to replace it with a low cost card that is quiet. I find that most cards with a fan are noisy. Please let me know if there is a quiet fanless card that is ok or a low noise one with a fan. I will not be doing any heavy gaming.

Wireless card - EDIMAX EW-7728In

sound card -- pro audio card - havent decided yet

Any advice on changes? Im especially concerned about the motherboard and video. The board can be micro or full ATX.

Thank you all very much.

Looks like a good plan. The biggest noise maker is going to be the case itself. The single 120mm fan in the back will have to work hard to keep everything cool.

Because of the cooling in the case, I have a hard time recommending a fanless video card.

Here is one that goes work well:

But again I'm not sure the case has enough air flow to use it.

This is another:

Now if you were to mod that case and install another 140mm on the side, you would be all set.

For sound cards, this xonar has reviewed well and is comparable to higher level cards such as the creative labs below:
xonar~90$ 65$ after MIR

creative x-fi~140$

For another 5$, u can get a 640gb hard drive that's just as fast on read, write as the 500. Some benchmarks even have the 640 being faster on the read speeds.
WD 640gb 32mb cache

Below is an inexpensive video card that's considered a great value at that price/performance point.
sapphire 4770~110$

FYI, if u want to get more replies, copy and paste the template for new builds from the sticky asking for advice. If you don't, the guys who really know their stuff will avoid the post because they don't have all the info they need to help you in the best possible way.
Good luck!

Ooops. newegg was down when I posted before.

With an EA380, you can't run that 9600GT. The 4670 will probably run, but a 380W, even a good one like that, is a bit light for a gaming card.

Thanks! What do you think of the Mobo?

Biostar would not be my pick for the company. Gigabyte has a G41 that actually costs less:

As to the G41 chipset, I think it's a great budget choice.

Your other choice would be AMD 780G chipset and and X3 720. This might actually save you money and get a faster processor over all... not faster in programs coded for quads, but close, and faster in many programs.

X3 720

ASRock MB

4 memory slots for future upgrades.

See? Good processor with a better motherboard.

You should rethink the no overclock thing though:

You'll need a good cooler, and this one is great.
Overclocking is not like it was 4 or 5 years ago. It's easy and fruitful and not much more risky than building your own system.
The extra cooling in your case, and this cooler, and you can do it.
